The Boston Globe - November 14, 1897, Page 27

Served in the 9th Light Battery.

Count Achilles de Vecchi, who died from accidental poisoning Wednesday in Washington, D. C. was at one time connected with the Massachusetts militia, he having been commissioned captain of the 9th Massachusetts light battery, Aug. 9, 1862, and resigned his commission Jan. 26, 1863.

For many years the count has devoted his time to politics, being a stanch republican, and has done much toward bringing his countrymen into the republican fold. He leaves a large amount of landed property in Italy and made a pastime of politics.
